Intentional Teaching

Teaching beyond the textbook with an approach that advocates
academic, social and personal growth through a combination of
child-guided and adult-guided learning.

Child-Guided Learning

  • Permitting students to use the knowledge they have to explore,
    problem-solve and challenge themselves
  • Encouraging children to learn from each other through reduced
    teacher interruption
  • Allowing students to take ownership of their learning by giving them
choices and learning at their own rate

Adult-Guided Learning

  • Directing students to materials or methods that children may not
    come across on their own
  • Introducing children to something that may interest them
of which they are not aware
  • Intervening as necessary to ensure the safety of the students
  • Assisting children in gaining specific necessary information they
cannot acquire on their own, for example, letter or number names
    and vocabulary expansion
